Anita Gulati is Associate Director, Pelumbra and Fellow at the Bristol Business School, University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol. Anita has a background in organisational psychology, and applied social research and evaluation to enable positive social change, all of which informs her work in leadership development. She is interested in bringing together the best of science and social science to help individuals, organisations, and society flourish. Anita worked with Marvin Rees (now Bristol’s Mayor) and other colleagues to pilot the Diversity Advantage programme for the NHS Leadership Academy South West. She also supports the ongoing development of the City Leadership Programme for disadvantaged young people in Bristol on behalf of founders Marvin Rees and Tracie Jolliff. Anita recently helped develop and pilot the City Leadership Challenge on behalf of UWE and multiple agencies in Bristol to pioneer collective complex problem solving to city wide issues such as mental health. Over the last two years Anita has contributed to a national action research evaluation to address inclusion in the NHS. Anita has also facilitated intergenerational business planning and transition for her Asian family’s global business in Singapore. And quite a few years ago now she established an arts bar in Bristol’s now famous alternative quarter of Stokes Croft called Leftbank.
Anita has worked extensively in South Africa to address inequality post-Apartheid. Anita’s family background links Pakistan and South Africa to the birth of the NHS. She is currently experimenting with life in the French Alps and enjoys yoga, cooking and skiing when time allows!
